a ceramic class by Leonardo Tomasi
A THING is a 30-minute participatory performance for 15 participants, a table, and some colored modeling clay.
Following the instructions of a performer, the audience shapes the parts of a creature out of modeling clay. The sculpture comes to life and begins to interact with the world around it, moved across the table by the spectators, who continue to shape and animate the objects that inhabit the creature’s world. What shape does fear take? How do you shape love? What color is hunger? Inspired by the myth of the Golem, A THING is a blend of play, a ceramics workshop, and an anatomical theater—an exploration, through the language of puppetry, of how we try to understand the incomprehensible phenomena of life.
